I'm Laura Stein, and I've been where you are now. I've spent 20 years running a successful, globally recognized design firm, but it didn't start out that way. In fact, it started out in a spare bedroom in my parents' house. There was a lot of trial and error, too many late nights, and months of burnout. But I never gave up on my dreams, and now I'm here to help you reach yours – in a way that's smart, focused, and honed in on elevating everything you create.
This isn’t a course. It’s not a one-size-fits-all coaching program. This is private, personalized mentorship — one-on-one, and deeply invested in your growth as a designer and creative business owner. FAQ'S
HOW SOON CAN I GET STARTED?
Once your application is submitted it will be reviewed and you'll hear back within two business days. If your application is accepted and there is space in the program you'll be invited to sign up and schedule your first session. Your first session must take place within two weeks of signing up. If your application is accepted but our schedule is full, you'll be placed on the waiting list and notified as soon as space opens up.
WHAT IS THE FORMAT AND HOW OFTEN WILL WE MEET?
We will meet on a video call for 60 minutes, every week for 12 weeks. During our first session we'll confirm the time and dates for our remaining sessions. Meetings will be booked for the same time and day every week, but we will work around any known conflicts as much as possible. Meetings will be scheduled on weekdays, between 10:00AM and 3:00PM EST.
HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHAT WE DISCUSS IN EACH SESSION?
Once you've signed up, you'll be sent a very detailed on-boarding questionnaire. It's designed to help me learn as much as possible about you and your business before we get started, but it's also designed to get you thinking about your business and goals in new ways. We'll review it during our first session to determine your goals, where your strengths lie, and where you need support. From there, we'll map out a plan for the next few weeks to get you moving towards your goals in a meaningful way. If something unexpected comes up, like a design dilemma or an issue with a client, we can use our time together to work through that as well. Our sessions will be focused but flexible.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MENTORSHIP AND BUSINESS COACHING?
Business coaching tends to focus on metrics, systems, and performance: things like financial goals, contracts, and scaling tactics. Although there are many industry-specific business coaches who understand interior design, in my experience they often have a one-size fits all approach. I struggled with business coaches because I was expected to conform to their systems and processes, many of which felt inauthentic and out of line with my values.
Mentorship is about guidance, perspective, and wisdom. It’s about growing you as a designer and business owner — with support that’s nuanced, honest, and grounded in the realities of our industry AND your business. While we may discuss many things a business coach would cover, mentorship is personal and creative, while still being strategic and goal-driven. It's about elevating both your craft and your bottom line.
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT TO COMMIT TO 12 WEEKS?
It takes a committment to get results. The 12 week time frame is not random. It give us enough time to ramp up, get traction, and really dig in. There's no magic bullet here. This takes time and work. If you're not ready for a 12 week committment, this mentorship is probably not the right fit.
CAN I EXTEND MY MENTORSHIP BEYOND 12 WEEKS?
Of course! Once you're in, you're in. After your 12 weeks are done, you can continue your mentorship on a month-to-month basis. The cost is $2000/month for four sessions or $1100/month for two sessions. If you'd like even more flexibility, sessions can be purchased individually for $550 per session after your initial 12 weeks.
WHAT IF I NEED EXTRA HELP BETWEEN OUR SCHEDULED SESSIONS?
Light email or voice note support between sessions is included with your mentorship program. If something that requires more time and focus comes up between sessions you can book additional interim sessions for $550 per session.
DO THE 12 WEEKLY SESSIONS NEED TO BE SCHEDULED 12 WEEKS IN A ROW, OR CAN WE SPACE THEM OUT FURTHER?
You sessions will be scheduled every week for 12 weeks in a row. If you have a vacation planned or other conflicts that you know of ahead of time, we'll work that into our schedule, but otherwise your sessions will be weekly. It's best to commit to weekly sessions so that once you gain momentum you can keep it going. Change takes work, but when it's drawn out over too-long a period you can lose traction and get distracted. Weekly sessions keep you targeted and focused.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO MISS A WEEK? ARE THERE MAKE-UP SESSIONS?
YES! You'll have two make-up sessions available in case something unexpected comes up and you have to miss a week. We will schedule all of your sessions in advance, and account for holidays and other scheduling conflicts as far in advance as possible to avoid missed sessions.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU NEED TO MISS A SESSION?
It's true... I'm human, and sometimes I get sick, have a family emergency, or something else that comes up. When we schedule your sessions, we'll work around both your calendar and mine to avoid scheduling conflicts as best as possible. If I do need to cancel a session we'll reschedule it as soon as possible, either later the same week, or we'll add it to the end of your 12 weeks.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
There are no cancellations or refunds on your initial 12 week mentorship. After 12 weeks, you may continue on a month-to-month basis and cancel any time. If, during your initial12 weeks, special circumstances arise that no longer allow you to continue with your mentorship (such as an extended illness), they will be considered on a case by case basis.
